Forbes.com: A fantastic nose with anise seed, roasted almonds and white flowers all wrapped up in a saline minerality that was rich with quince paste flavors on the palate with a fierce acidity giving it lift. Timorasso has complex aromas in youth (honey, minerality and nutty character) with an ability to age, it is no wonder that Luca refers to it as the 'white Barolo', although he said it drives the other Barolo producers crazy when he says such a thing.

After its malolactic fermentation in small wood casks and a year in botte grande, the totally unfiltered 2017 Barbera d'Alba Tre Vigne shows up as soft, immediate and rich, with nice little chocolate notes around the borders. Impressively, the various parcels of vines for this wine are all in the middle of the prestigious Barolo appellation. An attractive expression in itself and it would be a hearty companion to any hearty pasta dish.

La Crena needs a good bit of bottle age to be at its best, so readers should plan on being patient. Today, it is a tightly wound ball of energy. Time in the glass brings out hints of smoke, graphite, dried flowers, lavender and spice, all of which will blossom in a few years or more. The 2016 is simply fabulous !

Savory, nuanced and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2017 possesses tremendous complexity and character - the brutally hot year notwithstanding. It is also very different from the straight Scarrone Barbera, which has not always been the case of late. I would prefer to cellar the 2017 for at least a few years.

Rich, ample and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous richness and resonance from the very first taste. Bright red cherry and red plum fruit, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and spice build as this sumptuous, dramatic Barolo shows all it's got. As always, the Castiglione is built on a core of fruit from Ravera. In 2016, the Castiglione benefits from the inclusion of several new sites, including Ginestra, Mosconi, Bricco Ravera (in Monforte), Le Coste, Costabelle, Meriame, Briccolina and Codana. All I can say is: What a wine!
